...Bighorn
Outfitters offers quality deer
hunting in Pike and Calhoun counties
in West Central Illinois. The
deer herd in our area is known
for producing many of the nation's
largest trophy whitetail.
..We
offer quality deer hunting during
the archery, shotgun and muzzleloader
seasons as well as a bow / gun
combo hunt. Shotgun and muzzleloader
permits are acquired through a
lottery draw from the Illinois
Department of Natural Resources.
...Once
you have your archery hunt booked
and your hunt date has arrived,
you will check in the at the main
lodge between 8:00 am and 11:00
am on the day prior to your hunt.
This day will consist of a short
meeting. This meeting will cover
hunting guidelines, introduction
of the staff and guides, and review
of all permits and licenses.
..Each
hunter will be given time to change,
unpack or head straight to the
hunting area. A Bighorn guide
will place you in a scouted hunting
area to start your hunt. You will
be given an aerial photograph
to use to learn your hunting area
and to go over with your guide
during your hunt.
..Single
hunters or group hunters will
be given the opportunity to work
their area with their guide to
get a closer shot if necessary.
Bighorn wants you to be able to
hunt your deer like you do at
home. You will not be restricted
to a single spot. However, hunters
are required to be able to hang
their own hunting stands and equipment.
Each hunter will have on the average
60 to 100 acres to hunt depending
on the terrain. If everything
goes smoothly, most hunters are
able to get an evening hunt in
on check in day.
